GTS Filters are a large manufacturer of Strainers/Filters in the country. Sold under the brand name “Guru”, these are used to separate coarse particles. There are 4 common types of strainers used for oil and gas filtration. They are simplex strainers, y strainers, duplex strainers, and automatic strainers. Each different type of strainer has its advantages when being used. Y-Strainers are devices for mechanically removing unwanted solids from liquid, gas, or steam lines using a perforated or wire mesh straining element. They are used in pipelines to protect pumps, meters, control valves, steam traps, regulators, and other process equipment. As liquid flows through the y strainer, the screen of the strainer obstructs the flow and collects the debris from the liquid before allowing the process to continue. This obstruction causes the pressure of the liquid to drop, which is commonly referred to as pressure drop in the strainer. Y strainers can connect to the piping in a variety of ways, such as bolted flanges, threaded piping, and occasionally welding. How often should Y strainers be cleaned? In general, when the pressure drop across a y-strainer gets to about 5 or 6 psi differential, it's time to clean it. Never let it get too plugged; for example, more than 10 psi. If the installation is in the pump suction, it could cause starving the pump and cause mechanical failure. Strainer/Filter elements are easy to remove and clean. Our Strainers in MS/CS MOC are available with Painted, hot dip galvanized, or powder coated. Strainers in SS MOC is available with mirror polished on both side or glass bead blasting.
