GTS Filters is a leading manufacturer of Auto Self Cleaning filters. There are process requirements that call for the continuous operation of a filter with minimal human intervention. In such circumstances, an Auto Self Cleaning Filter is the best fit. There are some limitations to the use of these filters like very fine filtration or high viscosity fluids. Auto Self Cleaning Filters are used for continuous flow, trouble-free, and operator-free operation. Self-cleaning happens by activating a Scrapper Mechanism that cleans the inside of the filter elements and the dirt so scraped will be flushed out with a drain. These filters are used for preliminary filtration and the self-cleaning happens based on the principle of differential pressure. The Auto Self Cleaning of the element happens by rotating the scrapper mechanism with a geared motor. Instead of Auto, the same can be achieved by manual rotation by an operator. The scrapper can be a Brush or Scraper Blade. Self-Cleaning Filter Working Principle The fluid to be cleaned is guided into the filter by an inlet, which passes from inside to outside through the filter element. The filter element is manufactured by wire mesh or wedge wire cylinder. The filtered fluid enters the filter housing from inside the filter element, with the bigger particles trapped on the inside surface. After operating for a certain time, the openings of the filter element start getting clogged and when the differential pressure reaches a certain pre-set value, a PLC operates the scrapper motor which starts cleaning the inner surface of the filter element, thus cleaning it. The scrapped dirt settles down at the bottom and the PLC also activates a drain valve at the bottom, which purges the dirt along with some fluid. The PLC after a set time stops the scrapper motor as well as closes the drain valve. The system is now ready for the next cycle. The advantage of this filter is that one does not have to take the filter element out frequently for cleaning and that the same takes place automatically. However, during maintenance, it is recommended to remove the filter element and inspect for any damage, and manually clean, it before fitting it back inside the filter assembly.
